Partner
Partners of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens may apply to enter and/or remain permanently in Australia. Partners include:
- people intending to get married
- married (de jure) partners
- de facto partners
- interdependent partners (including those in a same sex relationship)
Spouse Visa
For people from overseas to enter and stay in Australia with their partner, who must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. If two years after you apply the spousal relationship is ongoing, a permanent visa may be granted.
Prospective Marriage Visa
For people from overseas to enter Australia, marry their fiancé(e), who must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. Once married, holders of this visa can then apply to remain permanently in Australia.
Interdependency Visa
For people from overseas to enter and stay in Australia with their partner, who must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. If two years after you apply, the interdependent relationship is ongoing, a permanent visa may be granted. This visa is generally for people in a same sex relationship.
Humanitarian Program – Split Family Provisions
For the partners of people granted any permanent humanitarian visa (including Protection and Resolution of Status visas) in the last five years. Partners declared at the time of application may be eligible for entry to Australia through the offshore Humanitarian Program.
Adoption, Carer, Child, Parent, Orphan relatives and Remaining relatives
There are visas for children or adopted children of Australian citizen and permanent residents. Orphan relatives who are less than 18 years old can also be sponsored by their Australian resident or citizen relatives. Visas are also available for relatives from overseas who need to be in Australia to care for Australian citizen or permanent resident relatives who are physically or psychologically incapacitated substantially and such condition is affecting the person's ability to perform the tasks of day to day life. Remaining relative visas are for the last remaining member of an Australian citizen or resident family. There are several options for parents of Australian citizen or residents who meet the family balance test. These parents do take long time to be approved and may involve a lot of money. |
